Water Heater Lookup is an independent service. It is not a water-heater manufacturer, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, a utility, an inspection service, an emergency service, or a trade licensing authority. Manufacturer and government names identify sources, not sponsorship or endorsement.
What the service does
It compares a complete normalized brand and model with the current U.S.-market ENERGY STAR Certified Water Heaters dataset, interprets only narrowly supported manufacturer serial formats, screens current official CPSC recall notices for candidates, and exposes the same bounded evidence to human and agent interfaces. ENERGY STAR rows containing model wildcards are not promoted to exact matches, and source unavailability remains visible. The service keeps model identity, manufacture timing, recall screening, and provider eligibility as separate questions.
Where authority stops
The lookup cannot inspect the unit, establish condition, diagnose a malfunction, confirm warranty, guarantee recall applicability, or certify a provider. An empty recall search is not an all-clear. Safety concerns, gas odor, carbon-monoxide alarms, active flooding, and other emergencies require the appropriate emergency service, utility, manufacturer, or qualified on-site professional.
How the business can earn revenue
Qualified providers may pay for marketplace access after independent application review. Payment cannot override verification, exact coverage, service capability, lead capacity, freshness rules, alphabetical public directory order, or plan-neutral initial request selection. The product does not sell a safety determination, paid evidence, a higher qualification label, or request priority.
How changes are handled
Source formats, recall notices, and provider records can change. Public provider records have private correction paths, and broader evidence concerns belong in the corrections channel. A submitted concern is evidence for review, not an automatic edit or removal.
